The Opportunity

Hello person behind the screen. Let me tell you a bit about how Morfosia was started.

About a year ago, I was given a considerable amount of leather from a well-known, trendy Parisian brand. They had it stored in their headquarters, destined for disposal. Since having circularity at my core, I decided to take it all and create something great with it. After storing it for months, scribbling and sketching out some ideas that just didn’t seem right, I was illuminated with inspiration for the perfect bag.

Inspiration

The answer to which type of bag I should create was right in front of my eyes all along.

There was a bag that belonged to my mom in the early 2000s, which had a small frontal pocket to carry around the small Nokia brick cell phone of that time. I stumbled upon it 20 years later and since that day I have rarely taken it off.

It proved to be the perfect bag for any occasion. Its versatility as a backpack, made it my constant companion—at work, to the movies, dinners, cute dates, the beach, and the most fun parties. Also, the practicality of keeping my metro card in the nokia pocket was game changing for me, someone who is constantly on and off metro and bike rides.

I fell in love with the functionality and design of it. I realized that anything I created had to be equally cool and comfortable.

Meaning of Morfosia

When brainstorming the name for the brand, I aimed to capture the essence of transformation. Working with surplus leather to create something beautiful reminded me of the metamorphosis process of butterflies – a gradual transformation from caterpillar to stunning creature. This concept resonated deeply with our approach to crafting bags.

On the other hand, my mother is Spanish, specifically from the north of Spain where they speak the language Euskera. In my family this language is spoken only from time to time but it had some allure and mischief to me, due to its enigmatic origins.

In Euskera, metamorphosis is metamorfosia. And therefore I grasped the -morfosia, which sounded like the name of a captivating and intriguing girl. The kind of girl the bag was designed for. Thus, Morfosia was chosen.
