Deadstock Leather: What is it? Where does Morfosia source it?
“Deadstock” or “surplus” leather refers to unused, high-quality leather left over from the fashion industry that would otherwise be discarded. At our company, we exclusively craft our products using this type of leather to give it a second life. By repurposing these materials, we not only reduce waste but also create beautiful, sustainable products.
Our leather is sourced from two renowned locations: Paris (from a luxury fashion house) and Tuscany (from high-end leather goods manufacturers in the region). This ensures that we work with the finest quality leather.
While working with deadstock leather has its limitations—such as restricted availability of specific colors or limited quantities of certain hides—we firmly believe this is a better alternative to purchasing newly produced leather. The production of new leather has a significant carbon footprint and often involves harmful chemicals and processes that negatively impact workers' health and well-being.
By choosing deadstock leather, we avoid contributing to these issues while creating unique, sustainable pieces. Through our efforts, we give new life to materials that would otherwise be wasted, all while crafting products that prioritize both quality and environmental responsibility.
Where are Morfosia's pieces produced?
Morfosia is deeply committed to supporting local communities and small businesses. Each of our pieces are thoughtfully handcrafted in Barcelona, Spain, by a family-owned and operated business. This collaboration not only ensures exceptional quality but also honours the craftsmanship and traditions of the region.
On another note, ethical production is crucial to us. We take pride in knowing exactly who makes our pieces and how they are crafted. We also value the opportunity we have of visiting the workshop from time to time to witness the craftsmanship behind our products firsthand.
What is Morfosia's Production System?
We take pride in our limited-edition production. Since we work exclusively with surplus leather, variations of a product in a specific color are available only while supplies last. As we cannot continuously source the same type of leather, we encourage our clients to seize the opportunity when they find a product they like in a particular hide or color.
Furthermore, we produce only limited quantities to avoid overproduction, crafting exclusively what our clients need and desire.
